New Name Same Service

At their August Board meetings, the Rincon Valley and Windsor Fire Board of Directors voted to approve a joint powers agreement (JPA) between the two Districts for the provision of administrative services.

The JPA creates a new entity, named Central Fire Authority of Sonoma County—“Central Fire” for short.

How does this affect you when you have an emergency?
In a couple of words, it doesn't. You will continue to receive services as you do now. The fire engine closest to an emergency will respond to it, regardless of which fire district the emergency is in. We will continue to do fire inspections, public education events, etc.

Central Fire affects only the administration of the two departments, combining it under one umbrella organization.

Why was this done?
Rincon Valley & Windsor have been sharing management tasks and costs for the past 4 or 5 years. The JPA formalizes the arrangement, creating one management entity over both departments. There also will be cost savings--personnel, equipment, office supplies--achieved through economies of scale.

Remember: Always call 9-1-1 from your landline phone or 565 2121 from your cell phone to report an emergency.

But when you call our business offices at 838-1170 or 539-1801, don't be surprised when we answer the phone "Central Fire."

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
